Our Story

What began as a way to make money while navigating their way through university, soon lead to a business that would exceed all expectations and set the benchmark for importing global motorcycle brands sourced for the Australian motorcycle market.

Director’s Michael Poynton and Joshua Carter were both at university studying when they began importing motorcycles. In the early days, while they continued to study, the boys were filling orders from their garage from a container that was dropped on a residential street.

A passion for motorcycles combined with a vision for how the business could grow saw Michael defer his degree in engineering and Joshua his in commerce to focus on building Mojo Motorcycles.

With a $5,000 credit card and next to no capital, it soon became clear both Michael and Joshua would have to learn how to run a profitable import and distribution company quickly.

It’s this ability to adapt and operate nimbly that has seen the company grow from a garage to more than 5,000m2 of warehousing facilities on 15,000m2 of prime industrial real estate in Altona, Victoria.

From the garage operation, Mojo Motorcycles moved into a 200m2 warehouse in Vermont, Victoria in 2004. Outgrowing the Vermont property relatively quickly, in 2006, Mojo Motorcycles purchased a 600m2 warehouse in Knoxfield, Victoria.

Continuing their growth cycle through the sourcing of quality brands globally, they moved from their Knoxville site in little under two years and decided to move west to the industrial area of Derrimut where they took up occupancy of 2,000m2 building which would become the home to the company through a period of growth that is still ongoing.

Five years into the Derrimut adventure, with global brands, TGB, CFMoto, Daelim and KTM Bicycles now on board, Mojo Motorcycles purchased 15,000m2 industrial site in Altona North, where three 5,000m2 state-of-the-art head office and warehouse facilities were built in 2014.

What has become evident since starting Mojo Motorcycles in 2003 is the hard work, determination and focus of both Michael and Joshua who have learned the ropes of running a profitable motorcycle wholesale business from the ground up, at times travelling the world sourcing quality products and keeping up to date with global powersports trends.

Today, Mojo Motorcycles can claim to be one of the fastest, Australian owned motorcycle brands in the country. The company is renowned for taking global brands and successfully launching them in Australia and is often approached by international motorcycle brands looking for an entrance into the lucrative Australian motorcycle market.

Brand Success

One of the company’s most successful brands, CFMoto has had year on year of growth thanks to the dedication and passion of the company to live by its values of nurturing a nationwide dealer network and source outstanding products for customers which represent value for money and quality.

This includes the number one selling 500+cc ATV in the country for three years running, the CF500 Classic (segment four 2011 – 2013).

CFMoto also outsold all the Japanese manufacturers in the side by side category in 2014 becoming the second highest selling manufacturer of Utility Terrain Vehicles (UTV) in the country.

In 2014, CFMoto’s Z8 was the number one selling 800cc+ sports side by side (SSV) in the country. The X8 ATV outsold all other 800cc+ ATVs the same year and is the country’s highest selling in its segment too.
